Professionally treating your pet’s skin issues to address potential underlying health concerns.
Your pet's skin is exposed to the elements, which means they have little protection from parasites and external irritants. It's likely your pet will have at least one skin issue at some point in their lifetime. Effective treatment not only addresses the skin issues but in some cases, provides ways to decrease the severity or likelihood of reinfection.
Our dermatology services cover a wide range of skin conditions, from allergies to parasitic bites. Some pet owners often think they can treat skin conditions on their own by relying on over-the-counter medication or at-home remedies. Though this is tempting, it can often create more problems, especially if the skin issue is a symptom of an underlying health concern. If you suspect your pet has a skin issue, we recommend making an appointment for treatment at 416-245-8805.
Pets with skin conditions often experience lumps or bumps, excessive scratching, hair loss, scooting, irritation, red patches, obsessive biting and dry skin. These symptoms are often attributed to the following conditions:
Before putting anything on your pet's skin, it's important to ensure you've consulted our veterinary team. Depending on your pet's skin issues, we often recommend topical treatments (like ointments or shampoos) and medications. When administering medications, you should look out for any adverse reactions, especially if your pet's skin condition flares up or worsens after treatment. For parasitic bites, your pet should have a prescription for a monthly preventive to protect them against future infections from ticks, fleas and other pests.
