Rabbit Services

Helping you care for your rabbit with all the guidance and support you need.

We understand that rabbits are more than just pets—they’re cherished members of your family, deserving of expert care to keep them healthy and thriving. That’s why we provide specialized veterinary services tailored to their unique needs, from routine wellness exams to more complex treatments.

Your rabbit’s care is led by Dr. Lauren Monaco, DVM, our Medical Director and Veterinarian. Dr. Monaco earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Ross University and completed her clinical training at Purdue University. With additional academic achievements, including a Master’s in Integrative Biology from Wilfrid Laurier University and hands-on wildlife experience at the Toronto Wildlife Centre, Dr. Monaco brings extensive knowledge and compassion to the care of rabbits.

Our Rabbit Services

  • Nail Trims: Keep your rabbit comfortable and active by maintaining proper nail health. Overgrown nails can lead to pain or even injury.
  • Wellness Exams & Vaccinations: Rabbits, like any pet, require routine checkups. Annual exams and vaccinations can prevent common illnesses such as rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) and uterine cancer.
  • Medical Consultations: If your rabbit shows signs of illness—such as lethargy, loss of appetite, or discharge from the eyes or nose—our team will provide a thorough diagnosis and customized treatment plan. Please note that while we offer comprehensive medical consultations, we do not perform surgeries on rabbits.
  • Radiographs & Bloodwork: Early detection is crucial for maintaining your rabbit’s health. X-rays and lab tests help us uncover hidden issues such as dental disease, tumors, or respiratory infections.
  • Eye Care: Rabbits are prone to eye conditions such as conjunctivitis and cataracts. We offer advanced treatments to protect their vision.
  • Palliative Care & Euthanasia: For senior rabbits, we provide compassionate palliative care and humane end-of-life services, ensuring comfort and dignity in their final days.
  • Dermatology & Anti-parasitic Treatments: Skin conditions and parasites like mites can make your rabbit uncomfortable. Our veterinary team is skilled in treating these issues effectively.
  • Gastrointestinal Disease Treatment: Rabbits have delicate digestive systems. We treat conditions such as GI stasis to prevent life-threatening complications.
  • Triage: In emergencies, we’re ready to provide immediate care to stabilize your rabbit and offer the best possible outcomes.

How often should my rabbit visit the vet?

We recommend an annual wellness exam for rabbits. For senior rabbits (5 years and older), more frequent visits (every six months) can help catch common health issues like arthritis or dental disease early. Some of the most common problems senior rabbits face include:

  • Arthritis
  • Tumours
  • Uterine Cancer
  • Respiratory Tract Infections
  • Dental Disease

Do rabbits need to be groomed?

Yes. At-home brushing can prevent matting which may cause irritation and problems. Rabbits’ teeth also need to be trimmed regularly as they grow all their life. Overgrown teeth can be extremely painful for your pet rabbit.

What should I feed my rabbit?

A rabbit’s diet should consist primarily of fresh hay, which helps prevent digestive issues. They can also enjoy leafy greens like kale and spinach, with limited pellets and constant access to fresh water.
